Letting Go In each and every one of us, there lies a fear. There are lots of fears in this life but what we're talking about is a fear that dwells inside of us, where mostly we do not tend to reveal it outside. That fear has the potential to eat us up slowly from the inside till it consumes our whole being. This fear is there in each and every single human being no matter how he strong he may be both on the core and the outside. These fears are but many and differ from person to person but I choose to be specific here and that is the fear of letting go.People come and people go in our lives but what hurts the most than letting go of the one you love the most in your life, the one whom you once chose to never leave through thick and thin. People hurt us from time to time. Of course that's Life, No doubt about it, but HURT sometime can leave wounds in our hearts where scars left never seem to fade away. There are some things that time does not seem to mend. Hard to accept but true. But here's the funny part, No matter how or to what extent these people hurt you, yet you still love them.You still chose to be patient. One of the Laws of Nature is the ‘Limits of Tolerance'. Middle Eastern Views of Mental Illness

There are many countries that are considered to be countries of the Middle East. Some of these include Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Yemen, and Isreal, just to name a few. Many of these countries have things in common, such as belief in Islam, use of the Arabic language, connections through the Arab League, historical ties, etc. The different countries form a chain of countries that are linked by culture and religion on the one hand and yet vary greatly in terms of dialect and history on the other.The Arabic language is a large common denominator between these countries; however, dialects can be so different from each other to a point where a person from Syria can hardly communicate with a person from Algeria. (1) Most landscape in the Middle East is either occupied by harsh desert conditions or mountains. This has made its people very tough in terms of living conditions. Lebanon, parts of Syria, Turkey, Iran and Iraq have mountainous areas while most of the other countries are flat and extrem ely arid.Those living in the desert traditionally used to move around in a perennial search for water, which resulted in unique eating behaviors and homes. A typical Arab house in the desert is built out of mud and has little furniture. The food is basic with little processing. However, in the mountains of Lebanon, Syria or Turkey one will encounter strong homes with heavy stones and arches that can last for generations. In addition, food in these areas is usually produced during summertime and stored in cellars for use when nature does not allow them to go out and work their snow covered fields. 1) Religions play a big role in the dynamics of the Middle Eastern society. They are considered to be one of the main pillars of the society and individuals are stereotyped based on religion. Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are the main religions practiced in the middle-east and people who practice these faiths only surround themselves with people of the same faith. Daily life is practiced on the basis of ones religion and others are expected to respect that.1) The present day Middle East is a mixture of very old cultures and very young nations that were organized by European colonial powers after the defeat of the Central Powers which led to the end of World War One and fall of the Ottoman Empire. The culture of the Middle East is thus understood only by learning about the history of the region and the forces that have influenced the growth and demise of controlling powers. Since World War One, colonial countries such as France, Great Britain, and The United States have ignificantly influenced the Middle East. (1) Keeping in mind this very generalized description of the Middle Eastern culture we can now begin to look at the beliefs in terms of mental illness. In my research it is safe to say that most all opinions by middle easterners are based off of their religious beliefs. According to the SRA (Stigma Research and Action) people from non-Western cultures tend to attribute the cause of mental illness more frequently to the afflicted individual.It is possible that discrimination against the mentally ill differs in an Islamic culture where mental illnesses and other ailments are, to some extent, considered to be due to the will of God, rather than evil forces, bad behavior, or other personally devaluating factors. According to the holy Koran, people with a mental disorder should be treated with respect, and this might result in a less stigmatizing attitude.Such a perception of causality would also reasonably apply to the individual, and might be a factor that reduces self-blame. One must bear one’s predicament and wait for the mercy of God! A study was done by SRA researchers and participants were asked a series of open-ended questions. Responses indicated feelings of alienation, sharing stereotypes about the mentally ill, experiences of discrimination, social withdrawal, and resistance to being stigmatized and discriminated against.For example, responses included: Yes, they discriminate against us; They don’t count on us; Our society has no capacity for us; I mean there is no cultural understanding in our society; They ridicule, insult and harm us; I wish they could understand that psychiatric patients are like other patients, like patients with cancer or cardiac disease and that they can live their lives.A recurring theme was the idea of the mentally ill as dangerous and aggressive: They all believe a mentally ill patient is a natural born killer and that’s why I try to keep myself to myself and not even claim what I’m entitled to; When the police came they were acting as if I was a criminal, but they ought to know that I’m a patient, not a criminal. India’s economic success is not the thing that should be taken into account but the path or the model they have chosen is worth noticing. Instead of relying on the usual method of exporting low priced manufactured goods to West, India depended upon its local markets. India focused more on services and high tech industry which were the main keys to their economic success. As, the Indians focused more on their domestic markets they were not that influenced from the economic worldwide recession which affected many other countries. One other remarkable thing about the model that India is following is the promotion of the entrepreneurs; India is encouraging a healthy competition among the private companies that are being established in the country. India has always promoted economic activities by removing trade barriers, lowering tax rates, encouraging competition, eliminating state monopolies, and liberating industries. India’s current trend of growth is likely to continue and even accelerate in the coming years. India started to develop rapidly in the era of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who appreciated the private sector in the country which was previously suppressed. India’s condition enhanced a lot since the start of 1990s. Telecommunications has revolutionized, interest rates are lowered, infrastructure has been developed and a big amount of capital has been raised. Even though India has progressed a lot, developing from an agriculture economy to service based economy, it missed out on the industrial revolution which could have changed the lives of millions who are forced to live in poverty. The lack of attention on industrial growth has made India’s middle step towards progress a little weak. This lacking is a result of bad policies set by earlier governments. After Independence Nehru tried to bring a government guided Industrial revolution. Since he did not have trust on the private firms he gave powers to the public sector, making it stronger. This step of his hampered all of the small scale industries, present in the country at that time, as they got helpless against the competition against mighty public sector. Since Nehru’s era government had been neglecting small scale industries, but in the recent year’s steps has been taken to encourage these small industries. It is predicted that in future years India will develop strongly in the industrial sector also. There are several other things that the current government has to modify in the current India model to make India a more successful state. The government has to provide confidence to the entrepreneurs so that the industrial sector can boost. It has to provide them with low priced energy sources, cut down indirect taxes; instead impose proper goods and services tax, designate economic zones which can reduce the regulatory burdens and abolish unjust labor laws. India’s success and glory lie in the hands of self confident and hardworking Indians. They are the ones who are going to determine India’s future. To conclude I would like to quote a famous saying that, â€Å"As you sow, so you shall reap†. So whatever the government does today to secure the talent of these brilliant minds will surely pay off them in the long run, for preserving and nurturing these outstanding Indian minds government has to take some measure to provide them with quality education, proper shelter, food and water. To explore the leadership style of Modern times leaders such as Mr. NarendraModi and Ms. Sonia Gandhi. 2. To explore the needs of qualities that youth expect from their political leaders. 3. Research Methodology: The data has been collected from various sources. The primary data was collected through structured Questionnaire and it was filled by 200 respondents from various colleges from south Mumbai within the age limit of 18 to 25 years. Educational level of respondent were undergraduate and above. Secondary data was collected from various published and unpublished research papers, articles, books, reports and mimeograph. 4. Indian Political System and Leaders: India, a union of states, is a Sovereign, Secular, Democratic Republic with a Parliamentarysystem of Government. The Indian Polity is governed in terms of the Constitution. The President is the constitutional head of Executive of the Union. Real executive power vests in a Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as head. Article 74(1) of the Constitution provides that there shall be a Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister to aid and advise the President who exercises his functions, act in accordance with such advice. The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the LokSabha. While the respective states, the Governor, as the representative of the President, is the head of Executive, but real executive power rests with the Chief Minister who heads the Council of Ministers. The Council of Ministers of a state is collectively responsible to the elected legislative assembly of the state. The Constitution governs the sharing of legislative power between Parliamen t and the State Legislatures, and provides for the vesting of residual powers in Parliament. Thus, Prime Minister and Chief Minister should be an effective leader with special qualities which differentiate them from the rest and stands out differentiate in their leadership style. The power to amend the Constitution also vests in Parliament. A recognized political party has been classified as a National Party or a State Party. If a political party is recognized in four or more states, it is considered as a National Party. Some of the party which are recognized and known are Congress, BharatiyaJanata Party, Janata Dal, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) are the prominant National Parties in the Country. Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, BahujanSamaj Party and Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and All India Forward Block in West Bengal are the prominent state parties. Till date Fourteen LokSabhas have been constituted. Excluding for the short-lived Sixth and Ninth LokSabha, the Congress Party ruled the country majorly. The Sixth Lok Sabha worked for about two years and four months and the Ninth Lok Sabha was in rule for one year and two months. Even in the states, the regional parties or the non-congress parties have gained in importance over these years. The renowned leaders among this loksabhas were Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Ms. Indira Gandhi, Mr. Moorarjee Desai, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Mr. V.P.Singh, Mr. AtalBihari Vajpayee, Mr. P.V.NarshimaRao, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and Mr. LalkrishnaAdvani.. Mr. NarendraModi: Mr. NarendraModi was born on 17 September 1950 in a middle-class family in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of Ahemdabad (with in Bombay state at that time), India. He is a vegetarian. He completed his schooling in Vadnagar. He earned a masters degree in political science from Gujarat University. 4.1.1 Personality: Mr. Modi is known for leading a frugal lifestyle. He has a personal staff of three. He is known to be a workaholic and an introvert. Despite of being face of HINDUTAV, he ordered the demolition of many illegal Hindu temples that were built without proper government sanction which earned him the ire of VHP. 4.1.2 Career: During the Indo-Pak war in the mid-sixties, even as a young boy, he volunteered to serve the soldiers in transit at railway stations.As a young man, he joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, a student organization and was involved in the anti-corruption NavNirman Movement. After working as a full-time organizer for the organization, he was later nominated as its representative in the BJP.In 2001; he was elected as Chief Minister of Gujarat succeeding to Keshubhai Patel. But he was asked to resign in 2002. In resultant election he won the elections with 127 seats from 182 seats in state assembly. In 2007, he won election against Sonia Gandhi with his hi-charge speeches and continued the post of CM. In 2011, he started 3 days fast as a part of Sadbhavana mission with a view to strengthen the peace, unity and harmony in the state. In 2011, he won again and continued at the same post. He knows the corporates would do the rest, all he has to do is to attempt them in, and make people his end customers, believe that it is basically him who does it all by taking immense risk. Thinker: As an analyzer he ultimately knows what kind of effect would last-long on his team, people and media. He would constantly make sure that somehow, people keep talking about him. This maybe a typical politicians game, but Modis style is different. By this, he maintains a brand value like no other. His target is wide and his ways of reaching them are very few. His branding methods sometimes cost him a part of his own reputation, but he knows when it is worth. He knows his powers and most of all, his weaknesses. So he is the most favorable candidate from BJP for the next Prime Minister of India. 4.2 Sonia Gandhi: Sonia Gandhi (born Edvige Antonia AlbinaMaino; 9 December 1946) is an Italian-born Indian politician, She is the widow of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi and belongs to the Nehru-Gandhi family. After her husbands assassination in 1991, she was invited by Congress leaders to take over the government; but she refused and publicly stayed away from politics amidst constant prodding from the party. She finally agreed to join politics in 1997; in 1998, she was elected as President of the Indian National Congress party since 1998. She has also served as the Chairperson of the ruling United Progressive Alliance in the LokSabha since 2004. In September 2010, on being re-elected for the fourth time, she became the longest serving president in the 125-year history of the Congress party. Her foreign birth has been a subject of much debate and controversy. Although she is the fifth foreign-born person to be leader of the Congress Party, she is the first since independence in 1947. 4.2.1. Career: In May 1999, three senior leaders of the party (SharadPawar, P. A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar) challenged her right to try to become Indias Prime Minister because of her foreign origins. In response, she offered to resign as a party leader, resulting in an outpouring of support and the expulsion from the party of the three rebels who went on to form the Nationalist Congress Party. Within 62 days of joining as a primary member, she was offered the party President post which she accepted. She contested LokSabha elections from Bellary, Karnataka and Amethi, Uttar Pradesh in 1999. In Bellary she defeated veteran BJP leader, SushmaSwaraj. In 2004 and 2009, she was re-elected to the LokSabha from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. Under her leadership, India returned the Congress-led-UPA to a near majority in the 2009 general elections with Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister. In 2010, she was ranked as the ninth most powerful person on the planet by Forbes Magazine. She was also named among the Time 100 most influential people in the world for the years 2007 and 2008. The British magazine New Statesman listed her at number 29 in their annual survey of The Worlds 50 Most Influential Figures in the year 2010. 4.2.3. Style of Leadership: Sonias leadership style stands out different because it breaks long-standing stereotypes. Reluctant:A reluctant politician, she stunned all the stone of doubt on her due to foreign origin, by declining the post of prime minister more than once. Taking New Challenges: Being open to taking on new challenges. Despite of various controversy related to her foreign origin, she joined party and proved her worth. Breaking Language Barriers: Breaking out of the Italian on Indian soil mould was probably one of the most difficult things for her to do, considering her Hindi was heavily-accented and there were enough detractors in the opposition to play up the foreigner card. But instead of giving up, she worked on her language skills and became the force behind the pro-poor programmes of the Congress-led UPA government an Endeavour which took her to the mofussil villages of India where Hindi was the only language spoken. So much so, that this campaign helped Congress win elections again in 2009. Rejuvenating Self: She is always rejuvenating self, from small town Italian girl to one of the most powerful women in the world, she has come a long way. Results: A structured questionnaire was get filled by 200 respondents from South Mumbai. Respondents were from age group of 18 years to 24 years especially from undergraduates and post graduates 10 colleges in South Mumbai. 150 respondents were from age group of 18 years to 21 years doing graduation courses and 50 were from age group 22 years to 25 years doing post graduation courses. The questionnaire was about the leadership qualities they expect to have in their political leaders. From the table no. 1, it is found that 125 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 40 from 22 to 25 needs a leader with good personality. 40 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 10 from 22 to 25 needs a leader who follows religion based politics. Such as supporter of HINDUTAV. 110 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 40 from 22 to 25 needs a leader who follows non religion based politics. Such as support all cause irrespective of caste and creeds. 150 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 50 from 22 to 25 needs leaders who have progressive ideas and ways to implement them fast and bring the meaning of economic development meaningful for the common masses. She/He must a person of action rather than words.100 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 30 from 22 to 25 needs a leader who can spare time for interacting with common masses to understand their grievances and take actions to solve them. All the respondents need a leader who can understand youths need, is a mass leader and is a non corrupt. All the r espondents need a leader under whose leadership style there will be good governance and bring meaning to true politics and adding to meaning of democracy. 100 youth from age group 18 to 21 and 35 from 22 to 25 needs a leader with good experience and he should be prompt action taker rather than just a spectator for the situation. From the table no.2, It is found that 103 respondent favoursNarendraModi, 57 favours Rahul Gandhi and 40 favours other regarding personality as a quality for next Prime Minister. It is found that 80 respondent favoursNarendraModi, 110 favours Rahul Gandhi and 10 favours other regarding Religion based politics as a quality for next Prime Minister.It is found that 50 respondent favoursNarendraModi, 90 favours Rahul Gandhi and 60 favours other regarding non Religion Based politics as a quality for next Prime Minister. It is found that 97 respondent favoursNarendraModi, 54 favours Rahul Gandhi and 49 favours other regarding Progressive ideas as a quality for next Prime Minister. It is found that 49 respondent favoursNarendraModi, 88 favours Rahul Gandhi and 63 favours other regarding Interactive sessions with the common masses as a quality for next Prime Minister. From the graph no.1 it is reveals that, after considering the response for overall quality of political leaders for the choice between Mr. NarendraModi, Mr. Rahul Gandhi and others, 42% favours Mr. NarendraModi, 37% favours Mr. Rahul Gandhi and 21% favours Other candidate for the post next of prime Minister. 6. Conclusion of the study: It is concluded from the study that youth needed a strong, effective, action taker rather than word taker, master minded, progressive, practical rather than theoretical in action. Thus, an effective leader is the need of the day. The present study also have limitations like constrains of the respondents (in number), time and location etc. which can affect the findings. Same study can be taken on the larger basis for more effective study.

Some people become anxious with new changes that throw out the restrictions that once was the norm. This, however, happens again and again throughout our history. Every increase in freedom to create or consume media, brings forecast of impending chaos and intellectual collapse. Our modern technology is changing the way our brains work. We no longer need to remember anything our tech does that for us. There seems to be a form of amnesia affecting us; the internet has changed the way we function. The way our brains have changed, from the use of the Web, is debated over and has yielded very different outcomes. Gary Small, a neuroscientist, professor, and author studied the effect that Internet searching had on the brain. Twenty-four participants were studied with half having no Internet search experience, the brains of the other half that regularly used the Internet showed an elevation in stimulation of the regions associated with complex reasoning and decision-making (qtd in Munro 4). The participants who were Internet novices had similar results in their frontal lobes after five days. Using technologies has influenced our brains, Small argues, the brain shifts towards and is energized by, new technological skills. This sounds good, however, as we rely more and more on our tech we become intellectually lazy (Munro, 2). Shirky states that the Net, in fact, restores reading and writing as central activities in our culture (3). The Net has greatly assisted people with their rese arch, having search results appear instantly instead of days of going through the library. Subsequently, not reading as we used to has had a price. Carr shares his struggle, Now my concentration often starts to drift . . . I get fidgety, lose the thread, begin looking for something else to do (1). The concentration we once had has changed, our brains forever altered. The Internet propels users from one place to another, making it difficult to concentrate on the task of simply reading. Carr admits, I cant read War and Peace anymore . . . even a blog post of more than three or four paragraphs is too much to absorb. I skim it (2). There is a new form of reading that has become more prominent in users of the Web, this skimming activity shows how our brains have been changed. A study was carried out by scientists at the University College London to see how our minds have changed when it comes to reading and thinking. During the five years of study two sites collected data on users behavior during visits to their sites, this produced results showing users bounced around the Net rarely re-visiting pages they previously had been to. It is thought that this style of reading promoted by the Net . . . may be weakening our capacity for the kind of deep reading . . . (Wolf qtd in Carr 2) that once was customary. The neural circuitry of our brains has been stu died when it comes to those readers that have an alphabet compared to those with ideograms as their written language, it revealed the brain of the ideogram learner was vastly different. The sections that govern cognitive functions as memory and the interpretation of visual and auditory stimuli (Carr 3) had the circuitry interlaced differently. Our concentration is now a struggle, what will the Internet propel us toward next? We were propelled into an age of technologies. These were supposed to save us time and labor. Munros opinion is that modern marvels are less labour-savers than brain-savers (1). The early technologies were meant to help us with the mundane daily task, automatic washing machines, dishwashers, drive-through car washes, but with these, it granted an excess of free time, the time we squandered with frivolous mind numbing activities. Todays advancements in technology have introduced us into an endless source of instant gratification. Take our cell phones, for example, they are now responsible for holding all our important information (i.e. numbers, addresses, meaningful dates) we no longer need to remember anything for ourselves. The connection is constant, Google can connect us to a source-any source-within a fraction of a second and with that why do we need to remember anything? Those things that were once etched into our brains, like our phone numbers, is now outsourced to our technolo gy. Robert Fitzgerald, associate dean at the University of Canberra says, There is indeed a dumb side to technology (qtd in Munro 2). He ponders if the searches his children complete yield something positive or if its a hit-and-miss. Is Google making us stupid? asked Carr (2). The answer is not so simple, but if not making us stupid, as such, Google seems to be making us intellectually lazy. Perhaps, our technologies will bring forth great positive changes or maybe leave us with digital amnesia (Harris 1). The Google Effect takes hold of so many of us, reaching our brains, inflicting its digital amnesia upon us (Harris 1). In 2011, an experiment conducted at Columbia and Harvard Universities brought theories that technology is reshaping the way we think and learn. Within our daily lives, some of us have come to heavily depend on Google to provide us with aid. From spell check to auto fill the decision we have made to use these electronic aids has [affected] our capacity to learn and execute daily tasks. No longer do we need to use our own memory, Google does it quicker and better, we get the answers faster and finish sooner. The information is recent but our comprehension of that information is lost. The abilities we traditionally [gained] through repetition and rote memorization are now impaired. This brain dump that occurs makes it difficult for an answer to be given, we must get back to someone because who needs to remember that? This dependency on Google is potentially harmful, all owing the tech to take over our minds, our work, making us inept to handle problems without it. The inflictions that The Google Effect has had on us needs to be turned around, a middle ground found, to ensure the future of technology and our analytical ability and intellectual capacity (2) remains intact Our tech will continue to grow and prosper, and continue to alter our minds, the way our brains think and learn. In the future, we will look back and find this tech to be distorted and the new tech will be more intuitive, more integrated, more intelligent (Munro 4). We can only wait and see if our intelligence ultimately might reveal itself in the smarts of those same technologies, (5). If we no longer dive deeper than the surface of information what will we be missing out on? What will we pass over and never come to know of? Carr describes a scene from Stanley Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssey in his article Is Google Making Us Stupid? where the artificial intelligence is being disconnected, pleading for his life, feeling his memory slipping away, the human Dave continues to disconnect his memory circuits without a second thought (1). Showing a cold artificial side that technology could be inflicting on us, turning the tables and switching our roles. This new evolutionary journey will be full of struggle for we still have so far to go. This tech revolution has just begun and I can only hope we come out of it with our minds capable of our human emotion and not unfeeling as though we are an artificial intelligence. The world around us changes and so must we but lets hold on to our humanity, use our God-given abilities to expand our minds and lets not take the easier way, use our brains allowing it to grow and produce great works of art, literature, and advancements in all fields of study.
